Higuain Real Madrid

Gonzalo Higuaín jumped onto the world football stage after being named Breakthrough Player on Argentina’s 2006 Torneo Apertura. "Pipita" is known for his speed in the last third of the pitch, his great striking ability, and his precisionpassing. Quick, elegant, and a knack for decision-making make Higuaín a fashionable forward in today's world of football.

Higuaín scored his first goal as Madridista against Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderón Stadium in 2006/07. His propensity for scoring in derbies dates back to his first Boca-River clash, when he led Los Millonarios to victory with a stunning brace. During his first year with Real Madrid he was criticised for rushing his shots on goal, but his few successful finishes were worth their weight in gold; Higuaín netted the game winner in the team’s amazing 4-3 comeback against Espanyol and lit a spark under his teammates in the season-closer against Mallorca.

Liverpool signs midfielder Raul Meireles

Liverpool sign midfielder Raul Meireles from Porto for a fee of €13 million. The deal should be finalised over the weekend subject to a medical. The 27-year-old Portuguese international, who impressed during the 2010 World Cup, is said to have agreed personal teams with Liverpool and is set to take over Javier Mascherano's position after the Argentine completed a move to Barcelona. Porto have been looking to sell Meireles as the midfielder has one year left on his contract and the Portuguese side would rather him not become a free agent.
Also, Liverpool have agreed a fee of €5 million with Fulham to sign left back Paul Konchesky with the possibility of youngsters Lauri Dalla Valle and Alex Kacaniklic heading to Craven Cottage.

Carles PUYOL

Thanks to a combination of talent, humility, dedication and a ferocious work ethic, Carles Puyol has developed into a first-choice central defender for both Spain and Barcelona. What makes this feat even more notable is that the 32-year-old Catalan started out in the Barça youth system as a right winger, before a succession of coaches decided the best place for this fierce competitor was further back.

Indeed, his first-team debut under the Azulgranas' former coach Louis Van Gaal came as a right wing-back, with the Dutch strategist soon making full use of Puyol's versatility and indefatigable spirit by changing his position once more; this time to the heart of the defensive line.

Line-ups: Vucinic-Totti-Borriello

Mirko Vucinic, Francesco Totti and Marco Borriello start at the Tardini, where Parma field Valeri Bojinov and Blerim Dzemaili.
The game kicks off at 12.30pm local time, 11.30am in the UK, between two sides who are desperate for points.

The Giallorossi had to leave behind Daniele De Rossi, Jeremy Menez, Adriano and Simone Perrotta. Julio Sergio made the trip a month after he badly sprained his ankle, but is not even on the bench.

Perrotta was suffering from a flu virus and there were reports this morning that it had spread to Totti, but that does not appear to be the case.

Why Wayne in White Would Be A Win Win Win

Although Wayne Rooney's Shrek-like head is reportedly being turned by the billions being offered by Manchester City, the United man should instead take heed of José Mourinho's advise to give him a call. If the striker does do a runner from Old Trafford, even as soon as this winter, then it should be to somewhere significantly more enticing than Eastlands. And that's Real Madrid...

The Win For Wayne Rooney
If the average, cheese-brained, money-obsessed English footballer paid as much attention to becoming a better player as to the size of their bank balance, Ipod headphones and the press attaché's tits then a heck of a lot more would have headed to the Spanish league in recent years than the brave few that have manfully taken the plunge in la Primera.

Rooney Revisionism Is Sadly Predictable

'He's a one-season wonder...he won't even get in the Manchester City team....Carlos Tevez was always the better player...Nani's the better player now...he's not as good as he thinks he is...his first touch has always been a liability...'

These are all views repeatedly expressed to Football365 via e-mail or story comments by Manchester United fans in the days since Sunday's first suggestions that all was not well between Wayne Rooney and the club he professed to love. It's as ridiculous as it is predictable and we've seen this reaction time and time again from fans of the Premier League's biggest clubs. It's become a standing joke that as soon as a footballer sees greener grass (or a better-looking cow) elsewhere, they are automatically rubbish in the eyes of the spurned supporters they leave behind.

The same fans who sang 'Fergie, Fergie, sign him up' were suddenly deriding Tevez as a poor man's Rooney, Arsenal supporters dismissed both Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira as busted flushes when they fled north London, Javier Mascherano became a clogger as soon as he became a rat leaving Liverpool's sinking ship and Villa fans were describing Gareth Barry as 'overrated' from the moment it became clear he was eyeing riches and trophies elsewhere. They, at least, may have had a point.
